Meal Planning on A Small Budget

Do you think it’s possible to plan interesting meals on a small budget for your family?

Absolutely! You may definitely spend a lot of time instead of money looking for bargains, maybe using the slow cooker, which of course  makes your meals comforting and savory or learning new tricks in the kitchen to make those inexpensive foods interesting. You may even have to resort to fish, chicken, stews or those pot roasts for dinner. When you are on a small budget, these are all wise choices when it comes to preparing meals.

To make your meals more interesting, try at least one new recipe a week, picked from a favorite cookbook, magazine or newspaper clipping. You can choose to repeat meals every two weeks or once a month on a different day of the week. Whichever  menu planning method you prefer, keep track on a spreadsheet, wall calendar or computer.

Is it better to “buy large economy sizes” in canned and even sometimes frozen foods?

This basically depends on two factors: the size of your family and the amout of storage space you have. Sales on these types of items for a large family, you probably can find a storage space for whatever quantity you purchase. If you are a single person, even the greatest refrigerator space may not serve you to keep the food in question fit for consumption for the amount of time it will take you to eat it all. That definitely doesn’t warranty a bargain!
