Fitness in Your Day to Day

There are many ways you can get more fitness into your daily routine. These tips are not to be confused with a full cardio workout as that needs to be for a minimum of 20 minutes for health benefits. But more movement is great for your muscles and joints.
Some of these tips may make the family laugh for a little bit, but hey, I am personally used to my kids laughing at me
But as the kids were growing up I also got them to be goofs and move around with me. Which leads me to one of the first ideas.
1. Dance around. I am the world’s worst housekeeper. I truly hate it. One thing that helps me get through it is my favorite music and dancing around the house like a goof. This one really got the kids moving and even our dog. Dancing around the house will help limber up all those joints and burn some extra calories to boot.
2. Extra sit downs. This is something I work 3 times a week with my seniors fitness class. One of the most important things you can keep as you grow older is the ability to get up from chairs on your own. Not to mention how this also applies to getting onto and off a toilet. It may sound silly now, but wait until you are in your 70′s and you will realize how important these little things are to you. When you sit in a chair barely touch your bum to the seat and stand back up. Do this a few times to work on appropriate squat technique in that seat back position. Work towards being able to do a few sets a day of 15.
3. Stairs! Run up stairs when you get a chance and it’s safe. Really push your knee up high as you are going up stairs.
There are so many ideas like this. Anytime you are standing still, think of something extra you can do. Even if it’s just standing on one foot for a little time and working on your balance.
